Tidelines

Colour studies made at the water’s edge, where the sea leaves a new line on the sand twice a day.

Tidelines, a series by Isla Carrow

N° 01 — About the series

Tidelines began as a way of loosening up. I took a box of colours down to Porthgwidden at low tide and painted only what the water left behind: a band of wet sand, a stripe of weed, a line of foam.

Back in the studio the studies grew into larger abstract paintings built from thin veils of oil and cold wax, scraped back until the layers show through like sediment.

A small edition of giclée prints was made with Tamsin Hale in Newlyn, each one signed and numbered.
