N° 01 — The work
Concept & inspiration
The harbour at its emptiest, the boats tipped on the sand and the sky the colour of a wet slate.
Visual language
Almost the whole canvas is sky. The horizon sits low so the eye drops onto the one white sail.
Medium & technique
Thin glazes over a warm ground, the sand scraped back with a palette knife while still wet.
Ideal display
Best on a wall that gets morning light, where the pale sky will stay luminous through the day.
